The brief: Recalling a carefree childhood filled with surfing and camping, the owners of this Brisbane Queenslander wanted a cost-effective living space made of natural materials, where they could live inside or out.
Why it works: Owner and architect Mick Hellen of Aardvarc has created an “inner-city camping experience”. “Living so close to nature gives a sense of connectedness and appreciation,” he says. Timber-framed glass walls highlight the indoor-outdoor connection while low-maintenance planting creates privacy. An outdoor fireplace is used year-round.
